<hi style=afpcap>Unquestionably one of the most successful designs of the Second World War, the Boeing B-17 Fortress was the primary heavy bomber flown by the Army Air Force within the European theatre. Hundreds of Fortresses were stationed in England, including B-17F 42-97976 of the 447th Bombardment Group which was stationed at RAF Rattlesden, Suffolk from November 1943 until August 1945.</hi>
